Well, I've done the dishes, given the dog a flea bath, and used it in my laundry... what on Earth can this magic bottle of blue liquid dish soap do? Let's find out and some of them might surprise you, they sure surprised me!
1. Dawn can help unclog your toilet. That's right, just drizzle some into the bowl, pour some warm or hot water in the bowl and wait. The soap will help to loosen oils or other agents that are causing the clog. Beat's the heck out of calling a plumber and racking up a huge bill.
2. Dawn will protect your houseplants from insects. Those of us who might not have the greenest of thumbs might want to try this trick. Take a spray bottle and fill it with water for your plants. Add a drop of Dawn to the spray bottle and spray your houseplants. Who knew?
3. Dawn will keep paint brushes from cracking and drying out. After you clean and dry your paintbrushes place a small drop of Dawn on the bristles to keep them moist and supple.
4. Dawn can actually smooth your skin, what?! Instead of paying for an expensive manicure where they soak your fingers in their solution and then the manicurist takes off all the excess skin with ease... well, soak your fingertips in some warm dawn water and then you will be able to remove the softened skin with no trouble at all. Add in a ColorStreet nail finish and you've got yourself an affordable day at the spa... Now if only I could get the Dawn to rub my back...
5. Dawn makes an amazing effective and inexpensive stain remover for clothes. I put Dawn right on the stain and let is sit sometimes even overnight. Honestly, I apply the Dawn and fold the garment up and set it on top of the washer to go with the next load. Sometimes that's the same day, and sometimes it's not. Plus, I drizzle Dawn in my regular laundry load anyway so the stain get's the 1, 2, punch of Dawn stain remover.
6. Do you have a squeaky door in your house? Not anymore, just apply a few drops of Dawn to it. Who says WD-40 gets to have all the fun, and the Dawn smells better too.
7. Dawn cleans makeup sponges or brushes. Just soak them in a solution of warm water and Dawn. Then rinse them well.
8. Dawn can be used to remove chewing gum from hair. Yes it is actually preferred by everyone involved to use Dawn instead of oil to remove chewing gum from hair. Why, well because it's sweet smelling soap that easily washing out once the gum removal process is complete instead of an icky, sticky, oily, mess that now needs to be cleaned up.
9. Dawn can prevent the spread of a Poison Ivy rash. Everyone knows that Poison Ivy rashes spread extremely quickly, especially in kids. Well, the next time you might find yourself in this unfortunate situation just reach for the Dawn. Wash the affected area in warm water and some Dawn. The dish soap will break down the oils in the rash and prevent them from spreading. Now you know.
10. Dawn will lighten colored hair. Now we are talking about the kind of color that comes in a box, colored hair, not naturally colored hair. If you dye your hair a certain color and wish that it was a shade or so lighter, wash your hair with Dawn. The Dawn will pull some of the oils that are coloring your hair out, leaving you with an overall lighter hair color.
11. Degrease any tools that might need it. Yes, Dawn can do it! Just soak your tools in warm water and some Dawn, and then wipe them clean and dry.
12. Dawn can be used to defog glasses. If you mix a solution of rubbing alcohol, Dawn, and water together you can spray the solution on your glasses and it will prevent them from fogging up.
13. To make an icepack that doesn't freeze solid, mix equal amounts of water & Dawn together in a zip-top bag and put it in the freezer.
Wow, that's more information than anyone ever wanted to know about this little bottle of dish soap. I bet you'll never look at doing the dishes quite the same way again. Just goes to show you that you should never underestimate anyone or anything based on looks alone!
