Everyone's familiar with WD-40, right? Well, did you know that it's not just for use on engines and squeaky doors? Nope it has a bunch of uses around the house that we are going to explore, and some of them might surprise you! In fact there are so many unique uses that I've broken this post into 2 parts. Did you know that the main ingredient in WD-40 is actually fish oil, um eww, but whatever works.
Keep Dead Bugs Off Your Car Grille
Use WD-40 to keep dead bugs off the grille of your car or truck. Now even you can laugh in the face of Love bug season. It's bad enough that the rest of your car gets covered with those splattered little nasties, at least you can save your grille, which is, no doubt, the hardest part to clean the bug guts from. Just spray some WD-40 onto your grille and hood and most of those nasty little critters will slide right off. Any bugs that are left clinging to your car's hood and grille should be able to be wiped away with ease.
You can use WD-40 to renew faded plastic lawn furniture. You know that chair that Grandpa keeps around, well now you can restore it! Simply spray the WD-40 right on the plastic and then wipe down with a clean, dry cloth and wa-la!
Renew Faded Plastic Furniture
We all have that plastic outdoor furniture that is faded from sitting outside in the sun. They don't always look the greatest, but there is a way that you can renew the shine to your furniture. You guesses it... WD-40. Just spray the WD-40 directly on the plastic and wipe down with a clean dry cloth.
Remove 'Paint Rub' From Another Car
You can remove paint that was rubbed on by a minor fender bender. I mean it's bad enough that someone hit your car, but now at least you won't be reminded of it every time you look at your car and the smudged paint that they left behind. Just spray the unwanted paint with WD-40, wait a few minutes, and then just wipe clean and restore your car's paint to it's original former glory.
Clean Carpet Stains
Cleaning carpets can be a breeze with this magic product. Never let another stain ruin your favorite carpet again. Just spray with WD-40, wait a few minutes, then use a regular carpet cleaner or a sponge with warm soapy water, until the stain is gone. Amazing!
Keep Wooden Handled Tools Splinter Free
WD-40 can keep wooden tool handles, such as brooms, shovels, and rakes, splinter free. While tools don't last forever you might be able to extend the life of your outdoor tools by keeping the handles from drying out and splintering. Just rub a generous amount of WD-40 into the wooden handle. The WD-40 shields the wood from moisture and other corrosive elements that would do damage to the wood. It keeps it smooth and splinter free for as long as the tool lasts.
Prevent Snow Buildup on Windows
This magical substance can prevent snow build up on windows. If you live in the North, this one is for you. If your weather forecast calls for a big winter snow storm, well then it's time to get ready. Amid stocking up on the essentials you may want to take a minute and try this trick. While you can't stop the snow from coming, you can prevent it from building up on the windows of your house, or where ever there are windows. Just spray a little WD-40 over the windows before the snow starts to fall, and it won't stick to the windows, giving you a clear view to the winter wonderland outside.
Keep Wasps from Building Nests
WD-40 can actually keep wasps and yellow jackets from building a nest. I personally HATE wasps, and I don't discriminate, I hate all stinging insects. But I especially hate wasps. They are common in our area and they are mean nasty little creatures from the depths of Hades. They can easily ruin summer fun, and can be aggressive. Their favorite place to build nests are under the eaves of your house or pool coping. This year try spraying some WD-40 under all the eaves of your house and your above ground pool coping and it will block the wasps from building their nests there.
Tone Down Polyurethane Shine
If you polyurethane your floors or counters, sometimes it can look to shiny. I personally thought that was the whole reason that you used the poly in the 1st place, but what do I know. If you happen to find yourself with poly that is just to shiny for your liking whip out your trusty can of WD-40 to tone down the shine. Just spray some on a soft clean cloth and wipe down the area.
Keep Spiders Away
Keep spiders away! Yes, that's right! Keep those creepy crawling little bug eaters away with the magic of WD-40. Spray some WD-40 on places like window sills or door frames where spiders or other bugs can get in. The spray will keep the bugs outside where they belong.
Waterproof Shoes and Boots
Did you know that you can actually waterproof a pair of shoes or boots with WD-40? Spray the tops and sides of your boots with WD-40 before you head outside where it's wet or snowy. The WD-40 acts as a barrier so the wet moisture from outside cannot seep into your boots or shoes and make your socks wet and squishy!
Keep Squirrels Away from Bird Feeders
How many times have you filled your bird feeder only to have a pesky squirrel munch on it before those pretty birds ever get a chance. This is a problem that many people face, and there certainly are some interesting contraptions out there that supposedly help alleviate the problem. Why go through all that when you could just spray your feeder, (not the food), with WD-40 and those rodents will slip right off!
Get Poop Off Your Shoes
No more do-do stuck to your favorite pair of shoes! Just spray with WD-40 on the sole of your shoe and use an old toothbrush or scrub brush to clean the poop out of the little crevices. Rinse with cold water and your shoes are ready to go!
Remove Chewing Gum From Hair
If you find yourself in the sticky situation of having gum stuck in yours or your child's hair just reach for the WD-40, then comb it out and rinse thoroughly.
Get Rid of Sticky Fingers From Glue
Next time you have super glue stuck to your fingers, just spray the glue area with WD-40. Then rub your fingers together and the glue will come right off.
Break in a New Baseball Glove
You can use WD-40 to break in a baseball glove or softball glove, just spray the glove with the WD-40, put a baseball in the palm, and fold it sideways. Take a rubber-band
or belt and tie it around the folded glove. The WD-40 will help soften the leather and form around the baseball to create a pocket. Keep the glove tied this way overnight, and then wear it for a while so it will conform to fit the shape of your hand.
